What does Compress do?
Compress includes two focused timeline tools: arrange selected clips with an exact gap measured in frames, and set every selected clip to an exact duration.
How does gap removal treat linked audio and video?
Clips that overlap in time are treated as one block, so linked audio and video keep their relative timing. The earliest selected block stays in place and later blocks move to the requested spacing.
Can Compress make a clip longer as well as shorter?
Yes. Longer clips are trimmed and shorter clips are extended to your frame value. If more room is needed, following clips on the same track move right. Extension still depends on the source media having enough available frames.
Will it overwrite other timeline content?
The spacing tool does not move unselected clips. When an extension needs room, following clips on that track are shifted while keeping their order and duration. Premiere may reject an operation on a locked track.
Which Premiere Pro version is required?
Compress requires Adobe Premiere Pro 25.6 or later and works on macOS and Windows versions supported by Premiere Pro.
